P003 → Urban Type Abstraction

Illustration, Photography

January, 2025

Urban Type Abstraction is a graphic design exercise that explores the visual deconstruction of systems of communication found in public by abstracting photographed typographic elements. Inspired by Matt Siber’s “The Untitled Project”, this process of visual deconstruction and reconstruction demonstrates how unique and meaningful pieces can be generated from pre-existing, seemingly insignificant elements.

Selected photography. São Bento’s Station, Porto, Portugal.

Typography extracted from the photography in negative.

Patterns and modules abstracted from the typography image.

Final posters created with the manipulation of patterns, crops and modules.

The collection was made part of Vila do Conde's Young Art Biennale inaugural edition in 2025 at Centro Municipal da Juventude, Vila do Conde, Porto, Portugal.
